I supported Robert F. Kennedy, Jr’s candidacy for President of the United States without reservation. That is, until he revealed his unconditional support for the rogue, criminal colonial-settler project in the Middle East. Most notably, it was his decision to run as a third-party candidate, an Independent, that originally caused me to take him seriously. Being a life-long Democrat, I watched the deterioration of the party since his late uncle, John F. Kennedy, was elected president and his father, Robert F. Kennedy, elected United States Senator from Massachusetts and then, appointed Attorney General under JFK.
Back during the heady days of the mid-to-late 1960s and early 1970s, the Civil Rights Movement and the Vietnam era, the party stood for something, they stood for the rights of the people and the working class and against government corruption. Our generation put a stop to the Vietnam War and passed the 1964 Civil Rights Act and the 1965 Voting Rights Act. JFK was so principled that he fired Allan Dulles, then CIA Director, following the “Bay of Pigs” fiasco. JKF openly wept when he learned that the CIA had a hand in the assassination of Patrice Lumumba, his friend and the first democratically-elected Prime Minister of the Republic of the Congo. Lumumba’s death is recorded as an “Execution by Firing Squad” when it was, in fact, a state-sponsored assassination with the CIA’s fingerprints all over it. JFK even lamented that he had “no control over the CIA” and that he wanted to “splinter the CIA into a thousand pieces and scatter it to the winds.”
This is a small sampling of the Kennedy-family legacy, an Irish-American political success story. This is the legacy that RFK, Jr. comes from, and his irrational support of Israel doesn’t match with his other principled positions. These positions include his support for Russia’s continuing eradication of the Nazi menace in Ukraine and putting a stop to Ukraine’s 8-year-long genocidal pogrom waged against the people of the Donbass.
Today, the Democratic Party is nothing but the corrupt, dim shadow of what it used to be, what it stood for. Today, corruption is the order of the day, where legal bribery by Big-Pharma lobbyists and Defense Contractors are the norm, not the exception. If it weren’t so sad, it would be funny, but these lobbyists actually have offices in the halls of congress.
Today’s Democratic Party is the other side of the same corrupt UniParty of thieves and criminals who run the US government. Under the Democratic Administration of Joe Biden we see skyrocketing food prices, with everyone but the super-wealthy priced out of the housing market, homeless encampments and tent cities the norm under overpasses in most major cities, where hedge fund managers have become landlords, a complete lack of any meaningful regulation or public oversight in all sectors and no Public Health care option. Under Joe Biden’s watch, most Americans have minimal or no health-care. In all of this, in addition to the continuous stream of weapons sent to the Nazi regime in Kiev, this administration continues to fund and support the government of Ukraine and the criminal regime in Tel Aviv, while turning a blind-eye to the suffering and needs of the American people!
So yes, we need a third party, a new party completely independent of the corrupt UniParty. Everything RFK, Jr’s. uncle and father stood for is represented now in the Palestinians, their aspirations, their right to life and to live free. They’re being denied those rights on a daily basis by the State of Israel, and he (RFK, Jr.) seems just fine with that. His decision to run as an Independent is the correct move, but he needs to seriously rethink his position and irrational support for the criminal regime in Tel Aviv.
